The speed rating of a vehicle represents how fast it is in its category (groundcraft, watercraft, aircraft etc.). To change rating to an actual speed, the following adjustment is needed to be made:
Vehicle Category Adjustment -------------------------- Pedestrian +0 Watercraft +1 Groundcraft +2 Aircraft +4/5* Aerospacecraft +5/6* Exotic DM Choice
*The adjustment of aircraft and aerospacecraft is the lower number in Handling environments and the higher number in Speed environments to represent the difficulty at which to maintain speed when making aerial manouvers. When moving from a Handling environment to a Speed environment in such craft, automatically lose one speed.
This means a car (groundcraft) with speed rating 4 has an effective max speed value of 6 on the chart, being capable of driving at 132 km/h. Any vehicle may accelerate up to the vehicle's rating 1 speed from rest with one acceleration.
Number m/CT km/h ---------------------- 1 2 2.4 2 5 6 3 12 14.4 4 30 36 5 70 84 6 110 132 7 150 180 8 200 240 9 250 300 10 400 480 11 600 720 12 800 960 13 1000 1200 14 1300 1560 15 1600 1920
For mixed vehicle chases, the driver of the slower vehicle type requires more successes equal to the difference between their adjustment and the fastest vehicle category. The limit is increased by that amount as well. Thus, a boat pilot trying to keep up with a car using the "Catch-up" action in a hard Handling environment will need to roll Reaction + Pilot Watercraft [Handling + 1] (4) instead of it being [Handling] (3).
