The California Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as "CalTech", is one of the two universities located in the greater Los Angeles area, with the other being UCLA. CalTech is based in Pasadena and has survived the 2069 earthquake rather unscathed and has used it as an oppertunity to expand its campus in rebuilding and reclamation efforts in the surrounding drowned cities. Its primary backer is the PCC, although it also courts corp money (but not from Horizon — they are in on the UCLA pie). It boasts a very strong Computer Science and a world-renowned Doctor of Thaumaturgy program.
